sagebrush
this was a wondrous and epic project from start to finish and my client’s dedication is unparalleled. what began as a sagebrush side piece became a full representation of the plant after we locked into a total nerdcore conversation around their taproot, which grows up to 6ft+ long to pull water from deep underground during the day and then disperses it into the soil surface at night for all the surrounding flora in its undergrowth. It felt serendipitous especially when I was out wandering, days later, on the edges of a high desert area and found an exposed sagebrush taproot after following some sage sparrows who were nesting in the mud wall. The taproot was at least 8 feet, and still reaching into the ground below my feet.
